Chris Cantell annouces New era for wireless networks

Mobile service providers have now the opportunity of their life, something they expected for a very long time, access to bandwidth currently reserved for terrestrial television broadcasts. That means the manufacturers will have greater security to develop better and cheaper devices, while the service providers will be able to offer high-speed Internet access on-the-move anywhere in the world by 2015 and lower rollout costs for new networks. All this is due to a UN telecom meeting on Thursday. Despite the fact that US residents will have access to this service by the end of 2009, while Europe, Africa, C hina, Russia and much of the Middle East will have the same access only six years later, US officials promoted a common decision at global level as the best option. Thursday decision is benefic for all the telecommunications companies because it means significant cost-savings as much as half of what the networks paid to roll out using higher frequencies, such as the 2,300 to 2,400 megahertz range. The negotiations lasted for a month between broadcasters and telecommunications companies or control of a prime stretch of radio spectrum. Nevertheless after all-night talks at the U.N.-hosted World Radiocommunications Conference in Geneva a decision was ruled out and Europe's powerful broadcasting interests won that the amount of bandwidth available for mobile services in their region to be half of what is offered elsewhere. The delay until 2015 also offers European broadcasters more time to examine interference problems, and allays Russian concerns about a possible conflict with military and aviation broadcasts that still use the frequency. Hopefully the merge will benefit the consumer as well and not only when it comes to the Internet speed. That might mean a cheaper bill for all mobile and phone possessors. Enjoy!

Chris Cantell annouces New cemetery discovered

Syria is the country where history found its meaning. Lots of stone finds, gorgeous temples, old cities, embossments, drawings, paintings on the wall and rich decorated tombs, Damascus as the oldest capitol city in the world and never ending conflicts with Lebanon. That's all belongs to Syrian culture. Even this week, important discover was made. Cemetery from Roma era was found in Hasaka province, about 440 miles northeast of Damascus. The graves are made of limestone and contain a lot of scenes from the past, as well as coins, pottery shards and bracelets. People used to put a lot of personal stuff into the tomb so the person could still stay the same and don't forget who they used to be during their living. Thinking about their rituals it is bringing me to thoughts about stuff I would like to have with me after I am gone. What are the things that make us who we are? What are we going to need in eternity? What will happen with our souls? How is it possible that one moment we are here and another we aren't? There are some moments in life when every one of us is asking these or similar questions. Questions that are really hard to answer but we need to find out who we are and where do we belong to. Syria is the country that has been here for so long. Maybe it is easier for them to answer some of the questions or maybe they can find them on the walls of temples where people before them left messages, codes and scenes from daily life. Maybe their deep and clever knowledge can bring some answers into life or maybe it is the faith they discovered to help them to understand where peoples' souls are going after they pass away and what they need for next level of their existence.

Chris Cantell annouces Starbucks figures rise, but not enough

Starbucks is probably America's best known coffee house and one of its best-known exports. It has come into focus many times as a representative of globalization and it looks like not even the financial crisis deepening in America is enough to stop it in its tracks. In the last quarter, it posted net earnings of $158.5 million, a rise from the $117.3 million same time last year. Revenue during this final quarter was up by $0.44 billion, from $2 billion last year, even though store same-store sales only rose by 4 percent. Traffic decreased by 1 percent in the U.S. stores open for at least 13 months, while overseas, traffic grew by 5 percent. All these decreases came as the result of two price increases during the last year, possibly due to a rise in dairy prices. The company thinks these figures are just temporary and that is focusing on long-term growth, with coffee houses opening in countries ranging from Argentina to Romania. Still, Starbucks has had better days. These decreases are the first in the company's history, and now competitors like McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts are threatening its position, offering specialty coffee for lower prices. This calls for serious marketing measures, like issuing personalized cards worth $25 for Starbucks customers, $20 of which can be spent in stores. The company also announced Thursday it would begin its first television advertising campaign, in an attempt to increase the number of customers. The decision is somewhat surprising, as the company had always refrained from advertising its products on TV.

Chris Cantell annouces From war to the airports

When Bush gets tired of the war, of the eternal battle for who's right and who's wrong when it comes to the Afghanistan and Iraq, he gets involved with the airports delays. It is for the second time since September when he steps out and orders the Transportation Department and the Federal Aviation Administration to come up with solutions in order to solve the congestion of the air traffic. No other president has ever intervened in such a problem and many aviation experts believe it has only long-term solutions. Pentagon will offer two air corridors off the eastern seaboard that are normally restricted to military flights to commercial flights, creating a Thanksgiving express lane from 4 p.m. EST Wednesday through Sunday. Bush said that the stranded passengers, crowded airports and flight delays are proving to be very expensive both for businesses and people who will miss family gatherings. If the representatives of business such as airlines and airports were thrilled by Bush action, air traffic controllers and pilots say that it's drastic and they are not able to handle it. However, the Democrats in Congress appreciated it, although they reserved comments because it came too late according to Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., House aviation subcommittee chairman, while the average American traveling through one of the main chokepoints, New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport, the decision is ineffective due to the fact that the problem is the airport personal efficiency. Airports executives are also coming with solutions on Capitol Hill like reducing overbooking during the holidays and adding ticketing staff, while for stranded people they will offer places to sleep, including cots, and food and water. Moreover, Nancy Kalinowski, systems operations vice president at the FAA said that Pentagon offer means New York passengers will be able to get out quicker, especially if the East Coast is hit by bad weather, and that means 75 percent of the nation's air traffic delays will be solved. From Bush's solutions many will be effective for Christmas, while some short-term like doubling the penalties airlines have to pay passengers bumped from overbooked flights will take place next summer. His FAA reauthorization bill, which would finance a multibillion-dollar modernizing of air traffic control by replacing radars with global positioning satellites, is on the Congress list to be passed. The short-term solutions include a holiday moratorium on nonessential maintenance projects (its personnel and equipment will be focused on keeping flights on time); new runway use patterns New York's Kennedy International allowing four to six more planes to arrive each hour; a FAA Web site, http://www.Fly.FAA.Gov providing up-to-date information about airport delays. Also The Transportation Department proposed new fines for travelers with tickets but no seat from $200 for those delayed less than two hours and $400 for those who wait more than two hours to $400 and $800. Meantime Transportation Secretary Peters acknowledged airlines would pass along to passengers some of the costs of the higher fees and penalties, but also adds that passenger already lose money due to the eternal delays.

Chris Cantell annouces Bhutto's return has not done much for Pakistan

Ever since Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan, she has not been out of the public eye for a single day. The suicide bombers threatening her life missed her but killed hundreds of her admirers but this has not stopped her from wanting what is best for her country. Pakistan's former Prime Minister is believed to have wanted to lead a protest against Gen. Pervez Musharraf, in an attempt to convince him to give up military status and return the country to democracy. She stated she would not be Prime Minister under his command but she is willing to negotiate peacefully, while Musharraf imposed emergency rule in the country and ordered she would be kept under house arrest in Lahore. Guards have been placed around the house she was in, including 600 police, to protect her against attackers, and she was only allowed to go pray at the tomb of Pakistan's national poet. Musharraf is still general, the country is still under emergency rule, and the general public still believes his election as President was a fraud. He changed the components of the Supreme Court and promised he would return to democracy, but he showed no clear intentions of doing so. Nevertheless, the general has agreed to free Bhutto from her arrest and provided her with guards for her own safety, while she stated she is now determined not to reopen negotiations with Musharraf. On Friday, a visit from the U.S. deputy secretary of state John Negroponte was scheduled and he will probably also urge Musharraf to end the emergency rule.

Mixed European stocks

The situation on the economic market all over the world is very interesting. Every day we get news from several markets, which are, these days confusing enough. Once European shares increase, than US stock market decrease and Asian economist are afraid of the situation with US home loan market. What the situation looks like now? Let's see. Yesterday was a successful day for European stock market, as it has recovered from early losses, when on Asian market appeared fears that US economy will decrease, and Asians sell off. According to dealers, Asian economist needed top take some profit from the last week pickup, which was the reason why European sellers encouraged, at the opening. This was a successful operation, but there is still a need of reassurance on the markets, mainly after the scandalous fraud in Societe Generale in France, that caused sharp downfall of Paris stocks. Despite the fact, positive showing on Wall Street helped to recover the markets which regained some of the lost ground. Furthermore, investors were curious, what the president of US, George W. Bush, would say on Monday evening, after the agreement on the conditions of an economic stimulus package, made by representatives of white House and Congress. Asian dealers approved investors were looking for some kind of safety, which they have found mainly in bonds and gold, which reached a peak of approximately $927 in London. One trader from London said: "Recent volatility continues with worries over US recession weighing (on sentiment)."

Truck-jam crisis on eastern Poland border

The Polish government is facing the first crisis on it's frontiers after it's entry to Europe's Schengen free travel zone. A situation on borders with non-EU countries have been dramatic since the last week. More than 1000 trucks is now waiting for the crossing from Poland to Ukraine or Belarus. The truckers are desperate and furious, some of them have been waiting for fourth day to pass have blocked roads to unable anyone to pass. The reason of tension on the frontiers is effort of Polish custom officers to make their salary conditions better. The truckers said they understand to officers but they want the others to understand also what this situation bring to truckers and to their employers. They appeal government to solve the situation. Interior Minister Gregor Schetyna promised to do it until 2 or 3 days. When the situation will not get better the truckers plan to block the capital city Warsaw with their cars to draw attention to this problem. Until this extreme plan will make true, the trucks are still waiting in queues kilometers long, with the frontier with Ukraine with 100-hour wait for passage. After December 21, the eastern border of Poland became the border of Schengen and it is responsible to guard this zone. The government believes, this position is only for fully-qualified custom officers who could meet requirements for processing border traffic. But the custom officers want to be evaluated adequate for their work. A starting salary for Polish custom officer is 1300 zlotys, the government offered increase of 500 zlotys while the officers demand wage hike up to 1500 zlotys.

Shaking position after the fraud case

It isn't usual that state officials would intermeddle with cases of private enterprises unless it becomes really serious and the possible consequences could reach solid troubles. It isn't deemed democratic and fair enough if public functionaries express their personal opinions about the trading on the market. When it nevertheless happens, the comments about the situation should affect the community in limited measures, often the requirement is in the main possibly lowest impact on the private business sector. Recently, Nicolas Sarkozy tends to do the exact opposite. He talks fully frankly about the problems in Societe General, a French bank nowadays generally known for its rogue trader. Jerome Kerviel, a 31-year-old employee, stimulates the dispute about the threats of the existence of Societe General on the market as well as the discussions about its eventual future. The case began when the trader falsified documents and breached computer access codes that consequently caused the biggest fraud in the history carried-out by single person. The following loss for the bank represents 4.9 billion Euros, but, unfortunately, "only" this isn't how the story ends. The bank's chief Daniel Bouton now faces a tough task as his position isn't certain anymore. The bank reputation altered and the institution's position has weakened. Societe Generale disclosed a massive trading loss and further asset impairments last week. The pressure on the head-officials is high, analysts said their future remains in doubt and Sarkozy told the press "high-paid management cannot escape their responsibilities when a major problem is discovered." There was also a possible danger which affirmed the bank could be offered on the market for the sale. If Bouton and other managers are forced to resign, the bank will be in an even weaker position, potentially opening the door to a deal. The possible bidders could include domestic rival BNP Paribas, Barclays in the U. K. or Italy's Unicredit. No one can in the present predict the future of Societe General, but one thing is clear. Its position on the market deteriorates constantly and the more the public and analysts speak about them, the worse their conditions are going to look like. And Sarkozy's statement just confirms that.

How to prepare for "silver tsunami"?

A few years ago there was no need to have such a widely extended knowledge how to treat the older people in America. This has, however, changed as the imminent silver tsunami is coming soon. William Kreager, a Seattle architect, used this term "silver tsunami" to describe the wave of baby boomers born just after the World War II. He warned about the impact on the housing market and the population growth by 75 percent by 2010. Due to this crucial case, a new necessity emerged. Brown and other medical schools are now expanding additional geriatric courses to acknowledge the accurate care for the elderly and to train as many specialists as possible. The U.S. Census Bureau draws the attention to the ratio of the elderly to the geriatric physicians. It claims that by 2030 the number of old Americans will double to 71 million, resulting in 7,655 seniors per one physician. Richard Besdine, who is director of the geriatrics division at Brown University medical school in Providence, Rhode Island, and past president of the American Geriatrics Society, signalizes that the first small waves have already come and America is still not convenient to deal with this task. He underscored also that a strategic and coordinated action should be taken to handle this issue responsibly and conscientiously. The major problem is that the geriatrics is not very lucrative field of medical choice. It is mainly because of poor pay and hard ailment diagnosis. Even some specialists who concentrate on health and aging population confirm that this medical branch is a difficult and complicated job, badly paid and no stable status. The American Geriatric Society has tempted the need of another 13,000 geriatricians essential to give adequate care for the elderly. Moreover, the Hartford Foundation supported medical schools financially by giving more than $40 million and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation donated $100 million to 30 schools to include more geriatric departments.

Gasoline under $3, let's celebrate!

Myriad of people in US have enjoyed cheerful news. The gasoline retail price is under $3 for the first time in 5 weeks period. Let's celebrate then! Invite your friends, bring some alcohol and all the party supplies. Party hard, have fun, this price is worth it. And when all your friends are gone, when all the mess is finally cleaned up, when awful hangover is gone, just sit down and try to think a little bit. Do you think this price is permanent? Or do you even think it will keep on decreasing? In the deep of your heart you still hope $1 era will be back some day? Come on! Have you heard about redeemable sources of energy? The bad news is, the crude oil needed in gasoline production is not one of these resources. It's unredeemable, meaning that more you are exploiting today, less you can exploit tomorrow, because the whole amount that's available is given by nature. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. Even though this day apparently won't come tomorrow or next week, it will someday. And you can either do nothing, or just prepare yourself for a slow, but a constant change. Do you need gasoline to fuel your car? Sell it then and get yourself a bike!Or if you are a genius, discover how to fuel your vehicle by energy of sun/wind/something we have plenty of and it's effective and available for everyone as well.

Baffling day ended in higher stocks

Due to investors' decision to buy into a stock market, Wall Street achieved blandly better. The investors overcame the stress resulting from the gradual losses in last three days and acted directly on Thursday to finish fitful trading. As a result of former market crisis concerning the recession, there were plenty of people hoping to buy a huge amount of valuable stocks at low prices. Just before Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial average relinquished everything it had gained in previous gains. Thus, it lost 4.26 percent, which is a drop by 543 points. Despite the fact the market finally resulted in a growth, the trading was enormously baffling because of all the declines from January, downswings in the home prices in December, and of course the disappointment of Cisco Systems Inc. performance. The most important indexes were dangling the whole day. Thanks for the slight rise in the dollar, finally after a few month decline, the investors should no longer falter and buy stocks abbot. One of the explanations to Thursday waggling is that former negative market information has raised the possibility of the Federal Reserve cutting the interest rate. As Dennis Lockhart told, the Atlanta Fed president, "the Fed's focus, religiously, is n the general, the real economy." What is more, it is recognized as seamy that the stock market gives forth economic declines rather than doing it vice versa. The investment strategy for ING Investment management Brian Gendreau explained that stocks did worse during times of slow growth than they did during recession.

Americans can finally celebrate the tax rebates

The U. S. Congress has finally resolved the currently notorious issue about the possibility of the economic recession in the world's largest and most powerful economy. A stimulus package to avert or at least soften the eventual danger of slowdown discussed for more than five months that mostly Democrats and Republicans quarreled about has been passed by the Senate on Thursday. And President Bush is likely to sigh it on Wednesday 13th although the public and analysts differ in the opinions about the right shape and found solutions of it. There are two sides of the coin. The arrangements to help the economy that slowly started to fall into the credit crunch, housing slump and also a loss of jobs in January were at least expected and definitely inevitable. On the other hand, the tax rebates that compile the recently approved bill are, in fact, causing twice as high budget deficit as last year's one. Consequently, government finances can probably face a damage due to the low income in the treasury this year, as some politicians worry. However, particular steps needed to be taken and the same opinion also George Bush maintains. As he said, the bill will help stimulate consumer spending, because the support of the economy is based on tax rebates and investment incentives. A $152 billion package guarantees one-time rebates for individuals up to $600, for couples $1,200 and for each child $300. Veterans, elderly people and others with low income won't stay out of game as they will get $300 checks. North American part of the world got scared of the decline and the officials do everything what they can to make the worries disappear. Moreover, the issue seems not to apply just to the United States. Fears about the global effect of the recession hit even wider public and also the election fight for the U. S. President got marked with the dispute about the situation. And other people in developing countries can again listen to the news about how great life the U. S. citizens are experiencing & they will even get some extra money!
